Group Attends LTC 2025 and Wins Awards
Suraj, Ben, and Yoel had the opportunity to attend LTC 2025 (International Workshop on Long Term Prediction of Corrosion in Nuclear Waster systems.
The workshop provided an option to present the copper corrosion work from the Persaud group to a wide range of international experts, and to hear about nuclear waste solutions being tackled around the world.
The presentations were very well received, with both Ben and Yoel winning awards.
Ben was honoured to receive the Japan Society of Corrosion Engineering Young Researcher Award for his presentation "Characterization of Copper Corrosion after the Exposure to Gaseous Hydrogen Sulfide under Anoxic Conditions". The highlight of the conference for Ben was the tour of the Fukushima Daiichi reactor site, it was truly a once in a lifetime experience, although experiencing the food and culture of Japan was a close second place.
For Yoel, attending the LTC conference was an incredible experience and a great opportunity to exchange ideas with experts from around the world on long-term management of both high and low-level nuclear waste. It was fascinating to see how each nation is taking a unique approach to developing their waste management strategies, and to learn about the latest research on material degradation and long-term corrosion performance.
Yoel was especially grateful for the positive response to his presentation, “Influence of Oxidant Concentrations on Stress Corrosion Cracking of Copper in Anticipated DGR Conditions,” and truly honoured to receive the LTC2025 Outstanding Research Award.
